Position Purpose:

The Mechanical Engineer Level III will play a key role in designing and developing robust automation solutions that help customers achieve their production, quality, and ergonomic goals. This position is responsible for managing projects from concept through installation, ensuring seamless execution and customer satisfaction. Working closely with cross-functional teams, this role will drive innovation, optimize designs, and support the company's continued growth by delivering high-performance automation systems tailored to customer needs.

Essential Functions:

Mechanical Design Engineering

  • Reviews customer-supplied information to develop solutions that meet their requirements.
  • Creates machine designs from the conceptual phase through final detailing.
  • Specifies materials and components for part and assembly designs, including raw materials and commercial products.
  • Identifies and recommends manufacturing processes and equipment for projects.
  • Utilizes CAD software to generate detailed mechanical designs, including print drawings, pneumatic, hydraulic, servo, robotic, and other components common in custom automation.
  • Collaborates with controls engineers to integrate mechanical systems with the controls group.
  • Ensures compliance with industry standards, safety regulations, and company policies.
  • Sizes servos using manufacturer-provided software.
  • Performs stress analysis using software to ensure robust mechanical system design. 

Project Management

  • Interacts with customers to develop conceptual designs for automated machinery and systems.
  • Establishes clear project targets, timing goals, and performance expectations.
  • Supervises the concept development phase of each project.
  • Manages projects from initial design through equipment runoff at the customer’s facility.
  • Maintains continuous communication with the internal team and customers to ensure build schedules are met.
  • Tracks project costs to ensure alignment with budget targets.

Development and Testing

  • Develops concepts into working solid models.
  • Manages print development through release to production.
  • Assists with the assembly and startup of machinery.
  • Develops and executes detailed test plans based on industry standards or custom applications to validate concepts, materials, and processes.

Strategic Support

  • Prepares and delivers technical presentations for internal and external customers.
  • Drives continuous improvement through employee development, process optimization, and waste reduction. Ensures safety in both office and shop environments.
  • Demonstrates self-motivation and strong organizational skills to drive tasks through completion.
  • Clearly communicates results across all levels of the company and applies innovative approaches to project challenges.
  • Brings a deep understanding of the automated machinery design process, from concept to completion.
  • Works closely with the mechanical assembly team to support the build, startup, and installation of finished systems.

Education and Training

  • Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering, or related field is required.
  • 8+ years of experience in a manufacturing environment, preferably with the build of automated machinery.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office applications and 3-D solid modeling software (SolidWorks preferred)
  • Dependable and capable of functioning as a member of a team.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Willingness and ability to travel up to 15% as required.
  • Extensive knowledge of machining, fabrication, materials, and mechanical design principles.
  • Proven experience managing complex development projects while meeting deadlines.
  • Demonstrated ability to drive product innovation and develop creative engineering solutions.
  • Strong background in material selection and manufacturing processes.

More Infromation:

In accordance with applicable pay transparency laws, the salary range for this position is $105,000 - $130,000 annually. Final compensation will be determined based on factors such as experience, education, qualifications, and other job-related criteria. This pay range is provided to ensure transparency and compliance with local, state, and federal regulations.
